Sandhill Crane Migration

  • Park and Ride 5400 D Avenue West Kalamazoo, MI, 49009 United States (map)

Each year before migration in southwest Michigan, Sandhill Cranes gather in considerably large roosts around sunset. Watching these graceful birds arrive at their roost in waves is quite a sight to behold.

You’re invited to witness this breathtaking event! As the cranes gather, we will attune to our surroundings. Looking and listening, we will be curious and make new discoveries not only about the cranes, but about ourselves. Come to absorb the wisdom that the Sandhill Crane has to offer us.

For this event we will remain stationary, birding from and around our vehicles. Please bring a pair of binoculars, and a mug for complementary herbal chai.

As always, since birds are wild creatures, they do not RSVP. However, when they do arrive, it makes the event that much more special.

Come to expand your bird knowledge in community, sharpen your identification skills, build your life list, and learn more about these fascinating creatures! All skill levels are welcome.

Registration covers one adult, and individual registrations are not shareable between two or more individuals. Birders 10 and under are welcome to attend free of charge. For questions regarding inclement weather, or cancellations, please visit the FAQ page.

We will meet at the Park and Ride on D Ave, located at 5400 D Ave West. From there we will carpool to Galesburg.
